Counselling Costs
Effective from June 1st 2024, the fee for each 60-minute session will be $130 plus GST, reflecting my commitment to providing quality services and supporting ongoing development.
However, as I don’t want cost to prevent people seeking help please talk to be about payment options. Fees are payable on the day of the appointment, using cash or online banking. I don’t have EFTPOS or credit card facilities.
Cancellations with less than 12 hours notice or non-attendance to a booked appointment will incur a 50% charge.
Some clients may be eligible for funded counselling through ACC sensitive claims and do not need to contact ACC to access this help. Call to find out about how this works.
For other funded options check with your employer as they could be registered with a service that provides employee counselling services.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often will I need to come to counselling?
The number and frequency of sessions varies depending on what the clients wish to achieve. This is explored in the first session and an indication given of the number of sessions likely to be required. Initially weekly helps to build trust in the counselling relationship and the process and allows for development of new skills and practices.
As the counselling process is one of collaboration, frequency and number of sessions is determined together.
Counselling does not need to be a lengthy process and for some people a few check in sessions at intervals works well.
Can I bring someone with me?
Sometimes a support person is useful if you feel nervous about coming alone and this is absolutely fine. You can decide if that person is to be part of the conversation or is simply an observer.
There have been times when a client has brought their dog with them as a source of support and comfort and I am happy to accommodate that for you.

Most sessions are held in my counselling room at Upper Level, 6 Richardson Street, Whakatane, but sometimes alternatives can be found if it is difficult for you to get here.
