Anxiety and Stress
At times anxiety and stress can become overwhelming and it is easy to lose sight of normal coping strategies. A focussed approach to stress management allows you to regain the perspective and choose your response to difficult situations.
Grief and bereavement
Everyone suffers loss at various times in their lives. The amount that this affects you and your life can vary enormously and may sometimes need to be addressed in a counselling setting where feelings and emotions can be expressed freely and without fear of judgment.
Trauma
Trauma can be either the result of a single event or as the result of prolonged repeated events. Traumatic events overwhelm people’s sense of control, connection and meaning and affects their sense of self. Trauma recovery can often be a lengthy process as the symptoms of trauma are many and varied.
ACC supports the treatment of trauma under the sensitive claims process for people affected by sexual abuse.
Depression
Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home.
Relationships
Connecting in a meaningful way with another person does not always follow a straight and even course. When things change in our lives it can have a detrimental effect on our relationships and lead to loss of connection. Counselling can help identify and resolve differences and conflicts and help develop skills to manage the highs and lows of your relationship.
